About The Pelham Jewish Center

Pelham Jewish Center at 451 Esplanade

The Pelham Jewish Center is an egalitarian synagogue affiliated with the Conservative Movement. It is committed to fostering a rich, communal Jewish life through religious activities, education, social action, and outreach to the unaffiliated.  It has a Hebrew school, adult education programs, youth groups, a junior congregation, and social action programs.

Click: Our History to read about our past.  Founded in the 1950s, the PJC has approximately 125 members. We are fortunate to still have among our community one of our elderly founding members.  We have young families, families with teens, families that have grown with us who are now empty nesters, and singles.  Our relatively small size, non-institutional environment and proximity to NYC have allowed us to form a community that is close-knit and cosmopolitan. We come from all over America, Israel, Europe, South America and Canada.  Some of us were raised in Conservative households, others in Orthodox homes.  Some were raised in the Reform or Reconstructionist movements. Some of us had no experience with Jewish observance before joining.  Some have been observant all their lives.  Some of us have only recently rediscovered Judaism and are eager to expand our Jewish horizons. Some families have non-Jewish members. Everyone is welcome, and everyone is encouraged to participate.
